Why is this still a thing? Dean Winchester is canonically straight. It doesn’t invalidate any slash ship, it doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to reinterpret canonical elements or speculate on his sexuality. It just means that the character is written as straight and acknowledged as such in canon. There’s no intended “gay subtext” left by the writers like a little trail of clues toward your supposedly-endgame ship. According to fandom, if Dean isn’t having sex with women, he’s not interested in them. And when he is having with women, he’s “overcompensating”. News flash: There isn’t a single of the so-called “gay moments” that could confirm Dean is bisexual, or even romantically/physically interested in Sam or Castiel or Benny. If there is the slightest doubt in your mind that a scene could either mean that Dean is interested in men or something else entirely unrelated to his sexual orientation (friendship! platonic brotherly love!), guess what? It means it’s not canon. Accept it, embrace it, move on.
I love meta discussions on Dean’s sexuality as much as the next person, and it’s great if you interpret him as queer, but if you sincerely think that non-hetero Dean is canon at the moment or that any slash ship involving him is canon/”obviously” going to be canon, I’m 100% going to fight you on it.* Don’t be a dick. Learn to differentiate canon and fanon.

Just because someone says anything doesn’t mean anything. I know what lying is, anon. I’m not an idiot.

And when people say things about themselves, I don’t see a reason to question what they’re saying.
And if Dean wants to be in the closet then I’m going to let him be.
I know it’s just a character, but I feel like treating him like a person. And if I knew a person and they told me they were straight, I would believe them. I would not doubt them. If they later told me there were not straight, that’s okay, and I’d believe them and understand why they lied but until that point there’s no point in speculating about someone’s sexuality if they’ve told you what it is.
